Description

Funerary wreaths such as this one have been found in tombs in Macedonia, South Italy, Asia Minor and north Pontic region where they became a popular offering in the 4th century B.C. Gold wreaths were also worn at festivals, presented as prizes in competitions and served as dedications at sanctuaries. Both men and women wore gold wreaths in ancient Greece.

Most of the elements of this wreath are ancient, but hey are sign of modern repairs, especially the presence of soldering to fasten a number of the leaves to the branches.
