L'identit? de Rapha?l, figur? au premier plan de ce double portrait, est incertaine. Les inventaires du XVII?me si?cle mentionnent les noms de Pordenone et de Pontormo. La physionomie de ces deux personnages, connue par d'autres portraits parfaitement identifi?s, est tr?s diff?rente. Certains avancent le nom de Giulio Romano, d'autres ceux de Branconio dell'Aquila, ex?cuteur testamentaire du peintre et d'Antonio da Sangallo le Jeune.
