Description

Here an idealized landscape, punctuated by swaying trees and classical ruins, is the setting for Diana and her nymphs as they rest and bathe after the hunt. Like many painters of his generation, La Hyre developed a classicizing style under the influence of Nicolas Poussin, whose work hangs nearby in this gallery. La Hyre's composition was one of six mythological scenes that were later woven into tapestries.
