Description

This painting of roses may have been painted during the final days of his stay in Arles, or in the following Saint-R?my period. Here we can see the germination of van Gogh's distinctive style of undulating, aligned brush strokes that would then clearly develop in the Saint-R?my period. While a small work, this is one of the finest paintings which signalled the beginning of Van Gogh's brief mature period.
